It’s week 20 of our CAL! I can hardly believe the time has gone by so fast. I’m really excited to share this week’s square by non other than Chi Chi Allen. Naturally you’ll all remember Chi Chi from her incredibly popular and gorgeous Around the Bases CAL. You can find information about this CAL on her blog, Keito Pallette.
Be sure to visit Chi Chi’s blog, Keito Pallette for some amazing crochet inspiration!
Chi Chi is a crafter originally from Tokyo Japan, but now calls Texas her home. She learned to crochet from her aunt when she was 7. Her aunt was a crochet and knitting instructor and used to make Chi Chi and her Japanese version of Barbie dolls matching sweaters, vests and dresses. Chi Chi likes all kinds of crafts-crocheting, knitting, sewing, card making, etc., but she spends most of her time crocheting because it’s so portable. In her day job she teaches people relaxation and stress management techniques, which involve setting aside time to turn off your brain and focus on your feelings. Crochet does exactly this for Chi Chi. She loves to use the colors turquois, white and pink and loves working with cotton yarn. She loves watching college sporting events and started Around the Bases afghan while watching baseball. She needed something to be interesting yet simple enough so she could still pay attention to the game. She is known as the lady who “knits” during baseball. And like many of us, she always has to correct people and tell them she is crocheting, not knitting!
She has designed this pattern weeks pattern especially for our CAL. It’s a very easy and relaxing square to make. I can see this square as a whole afghan! It’s really that nice!
Diamonds and Petals
Diamonds are a girl’s best friend and this square does not disappoint. We love the diamond design that comes together with dc stitches. The flower center, made of puff stitches is a bonus that takes this square to the next level!

As always, be sure to post photos of your squares as you complete them. We love seeing all your work!
Happy crocheting!
