3rd Anniversary CAL 2018! #2018FATW3
But what I’m most excited to tell you about this CAL…there will be VIDEOS! We’re thrilled to be working with Stephanie Shelton of It’s Crochet O’Clock blog and the popular Youtube channel It’s Crochet O’Clock/Youtube. Stephanie has been crocheting for nearly 30 years. She is passionate about introducing and teaching others about the art as well as educating about different fibre bases and their sources. Aside from pattern step by step instructions you can also find yarn reviews, stitch tutorials and a weekly virtual stitch gathering on her YouTube channel. She is a mother of four and a grandmother of two. She has two degrees, one in history and another in art with specific focus on 16th century textiles and fashion. You are going to love Stephanie’s enthusiasm and attention to detail as she guides you through this CAL!
I can also tell you that you’ll probably want to use Aran/Worsted weight yarn to achieve a 12″ square so start searching through your stash or get over to your favorite yarn shop. Some of our testers used DK which, of course, created a slightly smaller square. Because there will be so many squares you can easily make as many or as few as you want. You might even want to include a favorite square or two from our first “Friends” CAL. For each square we will include yarn weights but see the yarn info below for some specifics on choosing your yarn for this CAL.
The patterns for “Friends” will be available in multiple languages including Swedish, Hebrew, German, Danish, Korean, French and Dutch!
So, get your calendars out now and circle November 16, 2018. That’s the day we’ll release the first block. You’ll have to sit on the edge of your chair while you wait because we aren’t saying who our first designer is until then! What we can tell you is that the CAL will run through the end of June 2019. It will include 33 squares and a border. All brought to you by a star studded designer team that is sure to rock the crochet world!
Enjoy these next two weeks getting yourself ready for this CAL and if you haven’t already, be sure to head over to our Facebook Group page to sign up for the event! https://www.facebook.com/events/2158326031093994/?ti=icl

Yarn: It’s complicated! Testers used Aran/Worsted or DK weight yarn. The amount of yarn used will depend on how many squares you make. With 33 squares it will be easy to pick and choose as you go along. We will provide yarn weight each week. See the tester notes below for more info on choosing your yarn.
Hook: Use appropriate hook for the yarn weight you choose.
Finished size: BIG! With 33 squares, you most likely will not use them all. One tester used 30 squares for a 6′ x 5′ blanket. Another split hers into 2 blankets with 16 squares each. And one used all the squares plus 2 from FATW1. She used DK yarn for a 7′ x 5′ blanket. Much will depend on your yarn, hook size and personal crochet tension.
Tester 1: Stylecraft Special DK yarn. She used all the squares plus two from FATW1 for a total of 35 squares.
35 squares: 16 skeins
Border: 2 skeins
Total: 18 skeins
Hook: She used a 4.5mm Furls hook and crochets tightly so she recommends at least 20 skeins if crocheting all the squares.
Size: Final size was 8′ x 5′
Tester 2: 5 colors of Stylecraft ARAN – Cream – Fondant – Raspberry – Lipstick and Graphite. Skeins were 100 grams
Size: Finished blanket (unblocked) measures approximately 88″ x 72″ to cover a double bed, using 30 squares.
Hook: 5mm hook
Yarn: 30 squares with the extra 3 rounds added weighed 2495 grams before joining.
After joining it weighed 2580 grams. The border took 469 grams for a total of 3049 grams
Approximately 31 skeins, so roughly 6 in 4 of the colors and 7 in the 5th color.
