What a great kickoff to our CAL with Valerie’s “Noughts” square. I know you’re all anxiously awaiting the next one but you’ll have to be patient just a few more hours!
Meanwhile, we regret to have to tell you that there will be no video for this week. Unfortunately, Stephanie has withdrawn from the CAL due to unforeseen circumstances. Nevertheless, we know many of you were counting on the videos to help work through the CAL so we are working hard not to disappoint you. While this week there is no video, we’re hoping that we can still bring you videos for the rest of the CAL. Stand by for more information on that while we finalize our plans!
You may also have seen our post today about the extra rounds for the squares.
There have been some questions about the 3 additional finishing base rounds needed for the squares. Please know that these rounds are REALLY IMPORTANT as you look ahead to finishing your blanket and prepping for the border. Our designers created their squares with a final stitch count that ranges from 38 to 44 stitches. The additional rounds will bring every square to the same stitch count of 48 stitches.
Why is this important?
Well, experienced crocheters will tell you that every round builds off the previous round. If stitch counts are not correct, your next round will not be correct. That’s why it’s important to count the stitches in each row…saves a lot of frogging time!
You also don’t want to end up with a resulting puckering or ruffley blanket, do you??? The extra rounds will create a consistent stitch count and assure that your blanket will lay flat.
In addition to the the 3 rounds there will also be 2 additional set up rounds once all of the squares are joined to prepare for the border. Instructions for that will be provided later.
We can’t wait to see your finished pieces! You can add the extra rows now or after you finish all the squares. We’ve provided the instructions ahead so you can add them in your down time while you wait for the next square!!! Whatever works for you!!!
We hope all our friends in the US enjoyed a happy Thanksgiving. We’ll see you back here in a few hours for square # 2!!!
