Wheat Bouquet by Kate Veselunka

This week we are traveling to Kyiv, Ukraine to visit with Kate Veselunka, designer of the square for week 12 of the Friends Around the World CAL.  Kate tells us that she was inspired by the flag of her country.  Traditionally, in the Ukraine flag, the yellow color symbolizes wheat fields and the blue, a clear sky…a beautiful sight!

When we asked Kate to take part in our CAL, she had just received a new batch of beautiful linen.  She thought it would be perfect to crochet a personal “wheat field”. Before long she created her “Wheat Bouquet” design.

Wheat Bouquet is available to you as a written pattern here:  Ravelry/It Was Yarn

AND as a video tutorial here: Wheat Bouquet Video by Tania Leis

Do check out Kate’s Ravelry page as well as her Etsy ShopItWasYarn where you’ll find patterns for the most beautiful hats as well as many of her other designs.

Kate also shared some photos of her beautiful homeland…here’s a little glimpse of Kyiv!

Simply beautiful!  The photos were taken by Kate’s friend Elena Ivashuk.

Important Additional Pattern Info

Don’t forget you will need to add an extra three rounds to your square to achieve the final 48 st/side count which is necessary for joining. You can find the instructions for all squares here. Translations for these additional rounds can be found here.    The extra rounds will vary slightly from week to week because the squares vary in ending stitch counts so be sure to follow the directions for each square.

Until next week!
