Boxed Honeycombs by Bonnie Barker

Hang on to your hats, folks, we aren’t going anywhere this week.  We’re staying right here in Washington, DC for some more crochet fun with Bonnie Barker of Bonnie Bay Crochet!

We’re up to week 17 of the Friends Around the World CAL, and Bonnie’s given us another wonderfully textural design called Boxed Honeycombs.  Take a look and you’ll see why.

Bonnie may be a die hard hockey fan but texture is the name of the game this week as we’ll be making beautiful rows of cables, giving a beautiful knitted look to our squares.  By now, you’re familiar with Bonnie’s work and you know that Bonnie is well known for these incredibly textured designs. Cables are definitely more of an advanced crochet stitch, but don’t be intimidated!  Bonnie’s video will guide you through the technique.

Important Additional Pattern Info

Don’t forget you will need to add an extra three rounds to your square to achieve the final 48 st/side count which is necessary for joining. You can find the instructions for all squares here. Translations for these additional rounds can be found here.    The extra rounds will vary slightly from week to week because the squares vary in ending stitch counts so be sure to follow the directions for each square.

I guess it’s safe to tell you that you may as well pack your bags because we’re going on a big trip next week.  Hint:  pack your summer clothes!

See you next week!
