It’s week 19 Friends Around the World 3 is back in the UK, which I know is home for many of you. We’ll be enjoying the relaxing, change of seasons since yesterday was the first day of Spring. Nothing like a little sunshine to get me itching to get outside and check if my daffodils are sprouting!
Today’s square will give you that same feeling! Claire Sutcliffe has designed Misty Morning with the inspiration from the countryside where she lives in Billingham, Cleveland in the UK. Claire tells us it reminds her of a misty spring morning with the promise of the sun’s warm rays giving light and life to the surrounding land, giving birth to all of nature‘s wonders.
Claire was the leader of our testing team for the Friends Around the World 3 2018 CAL…no easy feat! We appreciate all the hard work and dedication she put into the testing process. With designers and testers living all over the world, in different countries and time zones, it always amazes me that we’re able to pull it off! Claire worked tirelessly to bring you a fantastic CAL!
Claire has three children, two boys and a girl. Her eldest two have graduated from university while the youngest is still in school. She is a self taught crocheter (5 years!) who jumped in and tried any pattern she liked, figuring it out as she went along. Claire also enjoys knitting, especially knit cotton “knockers” for the charity Knitted Knockers UK who pass them on to women who have had mastectomies. In her spare time, Claire also sews and makes cards.
In addition to designing the square, Claire created the join as well as the “pre” border which will ready your blanket for the actual border. This is trickier than you would think because, as you’ve already come to realize, not all the squares were designed with the same stitch count. Thank you, Claire, for all your efforts!!!

Don’t forget the extra three rounds you’ll need to do around each square to prepare for joining and finishing your blanket. Here is the link for directions on adding the extra finishing rounds. Link to: Base Rounds For Joining Claire Sutcliffe FATW3 . Translations for base rounds can be found here. This will be necessary to get your squares to the proper ending stitch count. It will vary slightly from week to week because the squares vary in ending stitch counts so be sure to follow the directions for each square. You may choose to add these extra rounds now or later.
So, where do you think we’re headed to next? I can tell you that we’ve not been there before…other than that, you’ll just have to wait!
See you next week!
