Get ready for an adventure in Tunisian! No, not Tunisa, we’re actually back in the Netherlands for the last time with Marjolein Kooiman who’s going to guide us through a tunisian crochet experience! Can you believe this is the last square of the Friends Around the World 3 2018 CAL? What an adventure it’s been! We’ve been around the world and back! Designers, translators and testers from so many countries and cultures have participated and we couldn’t be more grateful!
Marjolein lives in a small town near Amsterdam with her husband and two girls which is also close to the sea and dunes. She feels blessed to have a lovely meadow just outside of her front door where, in the spring, there is a large family of geese on it. Marjolein shared this photo of her geese which is exactly like geese who raise their families in a park near my own home in Wisconsin, USA. In fact, the photo could have been taken there! It is a small world indeed!
Marjolein is a Tunisian crochet designer, also known as Muis Creations. Muis (Mouse in English) is her Dutch nickname. She has designed several blankets (Remember Stacking Swirls?) and shawls and is currently working on a new Cal which will be hosted by CAL – Crochet A Long.
Marjolein designed her square, Square of Muis, as a lesson in Tunisian crochet. Think of it as a Tunisian sampler. Using her pattern along with the excellent video by Tania, you’ll learn some Tunisian stitches in just a few simple steps.
You can find the written pattern here: Square of Muis by Marjolein
You can find the video tutorial here: Square of Muis YouTube video by Tania Leis

Important Additional Pattern Info
Don’t forget you will need to add an extra three rounds to your square to achieve the final 48 st/side count which is necessary for joining. You can find the instructions for all squares here. Translations for these additional rounds can be found here. The extra rounds will vary slightly from week to week because the squares vary in ending stitch counts so be sure to follow the directions for each square.
Square of Muis ends with 40 sts per side so you will need to add rounds to achieve 48 final sts per side.
Rnd 1: Begin with a standing sc (stsc) inthefirst st ofany side,sc to end of row, (2sc, ch2, 2sc) in last st of row, working along next side, *sc to end of row, (2sc, ch2, 2sc) in last stof row* 3 times. (43sts, ch2) per side
Rnd 2: Slst tocorner chsp, *(sc, ch2, sc) in corner chsp, sc in next 43sts* 4 times. (45sts, ch2) per side
Rnd 3: Slst tocorner chsp, *(2sc, ch2, 2sc) in corner chsp, skip the first, slightly hidden st, sc in next 44sts* 4 times. (48sts, ch2) per side
So that’s it! Our CAL is about to come to an end. We’ll be back next week to wrap things up with joining and the border. Have a great week!
