VIRSA – The Heritage CAL – Introduction

VIRSA – the Heritage CAL, created by Aisha Talha Paracha, Attiya Shah, Gul Ammar, Naina Sohail and Saleha Waseem, is a true work of art. This CAL is inspired by the Artisan Handicrafts of the Pakistani culture, sharing the incomparable beauty of these works in the medium of crochet…..

This crochet along will take us into the world of Truck Art, Wood Art, Kashmiri Embroidery and more. The introduction to each Part will share the heritage of each handicraft and examples of the actual works from each area, followed by a crochet pattern that recreates these stunning pieces. Each week will have 2 squares released in this 8 part CAL, finishing up with the border that is created in 2 different crochet techniques (with a standard option available for those not skilled in Tunisian crochet).

For those of you who have been following CAL – Crochet A Long for a while, you will recognize Saleha Waseem from the Jahanara Shawl Wrap CAL which was cohosted in 2020. This wrap brought us the history of the eldest daughter of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan and his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal, and the beautiful stitch work designed to portray the story behind the “Most Powerful Woman” of her time……
