The time has come! We are thrilled to announce that we have a date to begin this wonderful mosaic adventure. Keep your day open! You DO NOT want to miss this. If you have been toying with the idea of starting a mosaic project, are a beginner, or even a person experienced in mosaic crochet and have succumbed to the mosaic addiction, then this is sure to entice you. Perhaps you remember hearing about this a few months back, or if you have not, be sure to read the earlier post about its inception. Now, our amazing team of makers have worked each strip and are finalizing their blankets, which you will be seeing along the way. For now, we have mockups of what each blanket can end up looking like. EACH? You ask. Well, when we asked designers if they would like to contribute to this project, we got an overwhelming response. Being that it is mosaic, some inset and some overlay, we had to figure how to make it work into a blanket. The first two very experienced and popular designers to help with the setup and technicalities were Moira Douglas from Daisyknots and Rosina Plane. We are very thankful for their assistance. There are many amazing designers involved at this point and each design is just incredible. You will definitely recognize some and will be enchanted by the works of the other ones as well. We ended up with 41 patterns!! As they were coming in, we realized that there were a few themes emerging, and things started to fall into place even better. So, instead on one blanket, we are doing THREE!!!
On Thursday, July 8, the first strip will be released for the Ocean theme. There are a total of 13 strips and all are so unique. After the 8th of July, for the following weeks you will be getting two patterns, one on Mondays and one on Thursdays. The last pattern for this theme will be on August 19th and you will also get the border design. There will be a week in between the themes so you can catch up a bit. Do you need to do all of them? Up to you. I know I will. If using worsted weight yarn, it can easily end up as 7 1/2 feet long. You decide how wide you want it. Each pattern works up as 51stitches across, you work them in multiples of 48 and then you have a beginning stitch, an ending stitch and an extra stitch after the last repeat. The yarn used can be dk weight or worsted weight and hook sizes range from 4.0 to 5.5mm. Approximate amount per strip will vary depending on your width. For example, with 3 repeats, a 5.0mm hook and light worsted weight yarn you would need between 35 and 45 g of each colors if using two colors.
The second theme will be the Geometric one. This will begin on August 30th, and end on October 14th with a pattern and the border. Geometric has 14 strips. Each one is a work of art in itself. The details are incredible!
The third and final theme is the Garden Party. Oh what fun you will have as you enter the gorgeous garden! This one begins on October 25th and ends on December 9th. Again, you will get a final pattern and border at the same time, and there are 14 strips here too.
One of the great things about this CAL is that it is a great stash buster! There is so much you can do to make this uniquely yours. As each of the strips is to be worked continuously, there is no additional joining afterwards. And those ends, well they are going to be hidden in the border so there is nothing to worry about there. Therefore, when your blanket is finished, there is no going back to hide ends.
Enjoy this beautiful mosaic adventure! We will be with you every step of the way and look forward to sharing the first pattern with you on July 8th. We will have more photos to share and a better grasp of yarn amounts hopefully before then. In the meantime, go through your stash 🙂
