Strip 5 is Springtime in Aotearoa by Jenness Fulton, our designer from New Zealand. This beautiful pattern is actually based on the flowers in a tree native to where she is from. If you worked up blankets from previous FATW CAL’s, you may recall her other fantastic patterns, Ponga Tree from FATW3, and Porohita, Tapawha Piwakawaka from FATW5. We certainly enjoyed working all of her patterns. This one is her first mosaic pattern, and we truly hope there will be more to come. Here is some more information on Jenness Fulton.
“My name is Jenness Fulton (aka Nessie from Nessie’s notions) and I live in Aotearoa (land of the long white cloud – aka New Zealand) with my husband and children. I first taught myself to crochet in 2014 using YouTube and photo tutorials. I started making my own designs the following year so that I could accessorise a road mat blanket that I’d made for my children. Since then I have designed a range of other things including designing squares for previous FATW CALs (FATW3 and FATW5).
This design is my first ever attempt at creating something using mosaic crochet and I have really enjoyed the challenge. My inspiration for this design came from the native kōwhai trees in my neighbourhood that are covered in bright yellow flowers in early spring.”

These flowers have such a beautiful and graceful look about them. Our Makers made such lovely strips from this pattern. Now it is your turn to make yours.
